Inspired by fragmented's bottlecap collection on Flickr, I've been trying to think of something I can "collect" from each city in the form of a photo.

Depending on where you're traveling, you might need to get vaccines from diseases like Typhoid Fever. I visited a travel medicine clinic today to receive some injections and was also directed to a great resource for travelers who want to stay healthy on their trip. And who doesn't?

Having access to your money while traveling is kind of important. On my last trip I took out all the cash I would need before I left. But that was a week-long trip and this time around that's not really an option. Make sure you can get a hold of cash when you need it!

My uncle was curious how traveling alone for a year would affect me. Would homesickness turn me into an emotional nutcase or am I a "tough cookie" who wouldn't even notice? Weeks before I embark on the trip I can already see how it's affecting me.

The last couple days have been a whirlwind of travel and catching up on work and sleep. I'm starting to gain a healthy appreciation for direct flights, though it's only my third cross-Atlantic trip. All three have involved touching down at least once to swap planes or pilots.
