Back in Vancouver
The last few days have been a whirlwind of flights and hospital visits but things are looking up. Thanks to all those who offered their support. We're not in the clear yet but we're getting there.
I have to say, it's weird being back. I first noticed it flying over the typically North American grids of streets after wandering so many European sidewalks.
There's an unusual familiarity here. Over the past two months I'd gotten used to being in places that were new to me. Now I recognize streets, buildings, and the characteristic sounds of Translink buses.
There's also the possibility of accidentally running into people I know. Within an hour of landing I happened across two highschool friends in a local Starbucks. Needless to say, that kind of thing never happened in London.
I've missed my family and it's good to see everyone again. Corny jokes and all. The reunion is even bigger because of relatives flying in to visit the sick. All the cousins on my mom's side are here, a small army whose lowest common denominator allows us only to watch the likes of the Wiggles.
The plan is to stay here for about a month, long enough for things to settle down before I continue with GoneNomad. I'm a bit ashamed to admit it, but the itch to get back to my travels is already there.

Seems like a pretty normal reaction to me Daniel. Although I came back from traveling cause my time away had run out - I had that reaction. Great to see everyone but can I go back now please?!
I hope things are going ok. Know we are thinking about your family. Take care.
Thanks Gaye. The last few days have been a bit of a rollercoaster as her condition changes for the better and then the worse but we're still hopeful.
As for that itch, I know I'll have the chance to scratch it. Another bonus is this break has given me some time to analyze the trip.
