One photo in a collection of bottle caps. Photo by maura.

Inspired by fragmented's bottlecap collection on Flickr, I've been trying to think of something I can "collect" from each city in the form of a photo.

Some requirements:

  • Most cities should have one
  • It should be at least a little photogenic
  • Each city should have its own variation on the object
  • You shouldn't be able to take the object with you

Some ideas that come to mind are manhole covers, a specific piece of traffic signage (everybody's gotta have a stop sign, right?), or taxis.

Got any ideas to add to the list?

Stops signs would probably be boring. There's an international standard and the US standard. I think in EU they don't even have words on them. Traffic signage in general is like that. See wiki.

When you mentioned signage, I was thinking street name signs, but I imagine that'd get rather boring. Taxis is an interesting idea. How about police cars (not sure how these differ town to town over in EU)? City halls?

Dunno. There's gotta be a good idea out there.

Thanks for the headsup on the comment-posting error.

Police cars sounds good, btw. I also recall seeing collections of interesting doors. And there are some pretty interesting doors out there.

Doors are fun. I took numerous photos of them while in EU last year.
So much personality in the colours, carvings, materials, etc.

Fire engines are interesting also...as are photos of your reflection
on a shop window at night, with signage across the street as background.

But closer to your gastrointerests are photos of bakery/chocolaterie
display windows. Amazing what things they can make out of dough...
